PRIVACY POLICY

We don't like spam, telemarketers, or any other unsolicited requests any more than you do, so you can be assured that we will protect your privacy. Geekz, Inc. will never sell your information to anyone, and we will never share your information with other third parties without a specific purpose and your written or verbal consent to do so for that purpose. An explanation of what is collected, when, and how it is used is detailed below.

Information We Collect & How We Use It

Contact Us and Service Request Forms

If you contact us via one of our on-line forms, whatever you enter on the form is sent to us via an email. We collect your name, email address and/or phone number in order to contact you back. If you submit an email address, we will send you an automated response email as a confirmation of receiving your communication, and will use the provided email address or phone number to contact you regarding specifics of your inquiry.

If you request our services, you will be added to our Client List and you may receive an occasional correspondence from us. See below for specifics on when the Client List is used.

Service

If you request service from us, whether through our online request form or via phone, we require contact information for you, such as name, address, phone numbers, and email address. We use this information to contact you regarding requested service and for billing purposes.

Your contact information will be added to our Client List and you may receive an occasional correspondence from us. See below for specifics on when the Client List is used.

If it is necessary to provide your contact information to a third party as part of providing our services to you (e.g., for processing a warranty claim), we will notify you in advance and give you the option of denying us permission to do so on your behalf.

If you provide credit card information directly to us for purposes of purchasing hardware or software from a third party on your behalf, this information is protected and we destroy that information immediately after using it for the specific purchase for which it was collected.

We use PayPal for processing invoice payments other than cash and checks. If you pay for our services via our PayPal option, you are providing contact and payment information to PayPal and Geekz does not have access to your payment information. PayPal will not use your personally identifiable information for any other purpose. Please visit www.paypal.com for more details on their privacy policy if you intend to use their services to provide payment to us.

Remote Support

If you request remote support from us, you will be directed to our remote support page where you will initiate a remote support session. By initiating a remote support session, you are authorizing Geekz to download a small executable onto your system for purposes of enabling the remote control of your computer. By granting us remote control, we are granted access to the files on your PC, just as if we were on-site looking at your computer. You have the ability to terminate a remote session at any time. When the remote session is finished, we disconnect from your computer and the executable that enabled the remote control is removed from your system. At that point we no longer have access to your computer unless you initiate another session with us.

We use the third party provider, Bomgar, for our remote session support. They are a reputable company very concerned about security and privacy, and their remote services are used in the most sensitive industries, including medical, legal, and financial clients. You can find out more about the security for the product we use at http://www.bomgar.com/remotedesktopaccess/wpregulations.htm.

Blog Comments

If you post a comment to our blog, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by us or other users of the forum. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit to this forum.

Non-Personal Information Collected

As is true for most web sites, we gather system information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes a date/time stamp and the IP address, browser type, referring page, and operating system of our visitors. This information reveals nothing personal about you other than IP address from which you have accessed our site.

This information is not linked in any way to personal information on your computer or that you provide to us via an on-line form. We do not sell or share this logged data. We use this for our own purposes, in aggregate, to determine what third party sites link to us, what online advertising campaigns are providing leads, what browsers are most commonly used, what regions our users are from (based on ISP IP ranges only), and what pages on our site are most/least visited. This information is used to improve accessibility of our site and pages within the site.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file that is sent from a web server to your browser and is stored on your computer. Cookies are usually used for storing user preferences or remembering which pages you visited. A cookie cannot read data off of your computer or read other cookies on your system created by other web sites. Cookies will not damage your system, but you can configure your browser to disable cookies if you choose.

We do not use cookies on this site.

Web Beacons

Web beacons are tiny transparent graphics (single pixel GIFs) that are used by some sites to track online movements of web users. Web beacons are sometimes also used by companies in emails to report back which emails have been opened by recipients. These usually use Javascript, which you may disable via your browser settings.

We do not use web beacons on our web site or in our emails.

Third-Party Links

Our site contains links to other sites that are not owned or controlled by Geekz. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personal information, whether we link to it or not.

Communications from Geekz

We may, on rare occasions, send general notices to members of our Client List, either via email or postal mail, with service-related announcements (such as changes in services, location, or rates). These will not be promotional in nature. As these messages are considered critical to our ongoing relationship with you, we do not offer an opt-out option for these, other than you informing us that you no longer want to use our services.

We may also, on an infrequent basis, send correspondence to members of our Client List, either via email or postal mail, with general news from us, such as new service offerings, new team member announcements, or special offers. Non clients (obtained from marketing lists, chamber member lists, etc.) may also receive these mailings. You may opt out of these communications (from either or both methods) at any time by calling us or sending an email to info@geekz.com.

We may also follow up with you directly (via email, postal mail, or phone call) regarding prior services we provided. This will be a simple “just checking in” message to make sure everything has been going smoothly since our last service and to update our records if any of your contact information has changed.

We may also send you a card at Christmas!

If we ever get our act together and put together a newsletter as we plan, we will initially include everyone on our Client List. You may elect not to receive these communications at any time by calling us or sending an email to info@geekz.com.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER

We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served to us.
